Why Madeira?
In the past, Doctor Himpens was on several occasions invited by local surgeons to come and perform highly specialised laparoscopic operations. On these occasions, he learned to appreciate the professionalism of the local medical staff. He also fell in love with Madeira.
In 2005, with the invaluable help of Madeiran surgeons he started performing advanced laparoscopic weight loss operations. The outcome was nothing less than fantastic: the patients did all extremely well, were extremely happy with their medical care, and were flabbergasted with the expedience of their recovery in this paradisiac environment. The major asset of this location is that the famous “European Continental” medical quality is guaranteed, but far from the grey, cold and damp weather which unfortunately seems to be synonymous with this continental medicine. These considerations were the onset of this brand new project, which will change your life and allow you to start again as a “new you”.

The Madeiran archipelago – belonging to Portugal – is situated in the middle of the north Atlantic Ocean 630 km west of the Moroccan coast and 900 km from Lisbon, the Portuguese capital on the mainland. With an area of 794 sq. km the Madeiran islands consist of five larger islands and a few small islets. The length of Madeira is 57 km and the maximum width about 22 km.
The climate is pleasantly steady and mildly subtropical. Never too warm and never too cold. Its average temperatures, 22-25ºC in the summer and 16ºC in the winter, and a moderate level of humidity, confer upon these islands exceptional subtropical features. The seawater temperature is also very mild because of the influence of the warm Gulf current, with averages of 22ºC in the summer and 16º in the winter. |
